I've got a fun question for y'all:

What is the significance of your toon name (main and/or alts)? How did you decide what your wow character(s) would be called?

I'll post mine in a few but am more interested to see what the rest of you post! I always love hearing about how players came up with their names.

xx :blahblah

My toon's original name was Grandstorm. Held that name for about 3+ years. When my guild leader decided to have us all transfer to arygos (out of our own pockets mind you..then decided to reform the guild.. /cough) one of my marine buddies from AIT was being shipped over seas. While in AIT, Army and Marines shared the same basic for schooling. We always hung out at the LAN center and played WoW. He called me Foofy as a nickname since I hated pink and anything lacey. So it was more of a joke name then anything. However, there is no fighting with a marine when they give you a nickname and they are fresh out of basic.

So, to support him heading over, I changed my name to foofy. While my guild laughed at me for it (yes I got pissed a bit) I had to explain to them why, after I did. they left me alone.

But for the original name of Grandstorm, I was new to the game and totally wanted to try and fit the role of a Tauren. So I went with a RP name. :x

All my names for main and alts are from or derived of characters of various short stories I wrote in a past life, including feeble attempt at writing a bigger storyline novel.

Renkar, Muirdrun, Tevenor, Warik, etc. All I had to do was match a name to what I thought was the right class for me.

Correction, I forgot my DK named Evolute. Named after my car. :)

My rogue's name came from the random name generator (Warrex) I've actually come to love the name and it's Irish/scotish roots.

My druid's name comes from an old inside joke. I used to raid on my rogue until about a year and a half ago when I switched to my druid. When I raided my rogue, I used to die...a lot...so much so that the guild would call me "The Floor Tank" So when I created this druid, when they die and release, they become wisps (night elves), and they go to the point where they would just make me run back, so runner. Wisprunner. kinda lame, but eh w/e :P

My hunter was actually my 4th character that I created behind my orc lock I never play. for my Orc I had been playing Oblivion a lot and one of the towns is Weynon Priory. I liked the name Weynon and named the lock that.

The hunter got her name from the fact that I noticed a pattern with my toon names: the names started with W and were followed by a vowel (WArrex, WIsprunner WEynon) So I decided to keep it going and go WU with Wumira.

Naomh - Gaelic/Irish meaning "Holy" or "Saint." I loooove Eire and its culture & history, so I'm big on its names as well. Since I leveled her mostly resto, this seemed to fit. No one can pronounce it though. Kind of like "Neev."

Céilí - My rogue, and an Irish party! I just think it's a cool word. :)
She dies a lot too, so I don't feel so bad now that Wisp's rogue is similar :P

Vasya - My tankadin. She was Imperia until I switched servers and that was taken. My husband calls me Princesse, and all variations of that were taken so I went with the equally (or more) royal Imperia. Vasya is supposedly Russian for "Royal." :)

Isotta/Esyllte - Add to this my husbands druid Drysta! I love the epic Tristan und Isolde. My dk and priest's names are the Italian and Welsh variations of the beautiful Isolde, and Drysta is a variation of the Welsh Drystan, obviously Isolde's counterpart. My RL name is Tristan so I'm also a little more bias. :)

Have a few more but their names aren't too interesting :P

keep them coming!

When I didn't die on our 1st ever Ragnaros kill, the guild was shocked. I kinda learned how to live after that. Up until I switched to my druid, the guild master (who also played his rogue at the time) and I were battling hard for the top 2 spots.

Now I'm content being top 5 as a moonkin (which in my guild, gets people made fun of ><) and the guild master is competing with my girlfriend for the top of the healing meters.

Woo! She's tree right?

My guild is very casual so except for the hardcore raider friends who come with to lead us in our raids, I'm top just under those guys. I'm sure that will change as people gear up etc, but I'll take it for now. My rogue was always top as well, but again we're talking a pretty casual guild. I think I died on murmur every time, I did manage to last in other things but after playing a hybrid class and going back to her, I get lost when I'm in trouble. "WHERE IS MAH HEALZ BUTTON!?!?" *die*

Wow. . . how did I miss this thread?

So let me set the scene, 11 years ago, on a cold fall night. The wind was howling past the houses in a suburbanite cul-de-sac. Inside a non-descript blue house, a light was on and two teenagers sat across from one another on the floor. Spread between them is an old book, the pages stained yellow with time. Runes are scattered on the floor. They are leaning over the runes, interpreting the meaning. This was no ordinary reading, however. This was a Naming. First was The Traveler. Next was Water. The final rune was The Reverse. And so they pieced it together. He had a talent with water, that much was clear. The girl suggested that it meant he started where he wanted to be and traveled away from his destination. Playing with the letters on a piece of paper, the boy arranged them backwards. "Relevart", the paper read. It felt right. And so the water magus was born, and named as well. Relevart, the Traveler.

hehehe =] (obviously, i strayed from the water path.)

Hehe, I just made the thread so you didn't miss it :P

Very cool! Your name reminded me of the book, The Traveler. Kinda cheesy but touched on some interesting points.

Honestly I have kept my mains names of origin a secret unless guessed as with my pally Mokie:P But my Shamman is named Lloki a play on the norse god of mischief Loki, also my beloved cats name! There is my second toon ever made, my rogue Echowind, I like the poem and mythology of Echo and Narcissus so I played around with the word to get something I liked. Then there is Magiee, got bored and ran out of ideas for my mage, lol. Ohhh and my DK is named Dantete after a character in Steven King's book series the Dark Tower meaning "little Savior". Excellent read BTW!!

Hmm... Well this toon was Gnomefarts. I just thought it was funny. When I got told my name was flagged for violating ToS I was pissed and just put down the first thing that came to mind... Gnomeslice sounds kinda like Home slice... so meh.

Other toons: Trombone, Loveskunk, Dirtyhippie... anything that makes me laugh.

When I first started WOW I was reading a lot of Bernard Cornwell... so I had some toons on another server named after characters from his Saxxon Stories... Beocca, Osbert, and Ragnar... but they were all alliance and have long since been retired.

Tradik. TRAD - ick. Meaning... Tradik.

Was originally a name I made up out of thin air for a character in a mud I played 9~ years ago. Full name Tradik Maanzik. All my characters since have been derivative's of it. Now it's as much my name as my RL name is.

John Twelve Hawks. It's the 1st of a trilogy, but I haven't read any further than that.

Lissanna comes from taking: Lessanna from a tolkien Elvish "how to make name" website (where it roughly meant honey gift), and changing the E to an I, so that I wouldn't be called "less" on vent.
