Soooo....since I almost cancelled my sub in despair when I lost Reign of The Unliving to the only caster in a pug raid, I have a current choice of trinkets to make.

Basically, it's Nevermelting Ice Crystal vs. Sliver of Pure Ice vs. Sundial of the Exiled.

Which of these two should I equip until I get spuglass/DFO/reign?

Believe me, I know how horrible it is to lose it to a pug...way back in Ulduar I repeatedly lost EotBM to other guildies and pugs >.> Still never won it, and it's still an upgrade as well...

Probably Nevermelting Ice and Sundial are your 2 best options, though if you can talk your guild into doing it for you, EotBM and IoDS are both superior options to those 3 you listed as well, and both make a better pairing with the eventual ones you want. Better luck to you on getting Reign next time.

Wondering if I can get some opinions.

Recently I haven't had much luck with trinkets and so currently I'm running with Eye of the Broodmother (not too shabby) and Dying Curse (ugh). Since I don't need the hit rating from DC (and I'm unlikely to win Muradin's Spyglass anytime soon), I was wondering if the 'upgraded' Purified Lunar Dust might be worth a look-in. I know the proc is useless, but is it worth it for a static +179 spellpower? Thoughts? Perhaps maths?

Is Sundial really better for a proc than Dying Curse?

The proc is only a little worse, but you also gain the "static" buff, which makes it overall much better. Extra hit rating amounts to 0 worth, so you're essentially weighing (84crit + CoH 590SP for 10secs) versus (CoH 765SP for 10secs). Dying Curse does have a slightly higher proc chance apparently, but it still doesn't make up for the constant +84crit, given that both have an ICD of 45secs and so will probably average at 1ppm.

How would the trinkets stack up if you tossed in Talisman of Volatile Power (heroic version) and Scale of Fates?

On a related note, if I actually needed a +hit trinket for some ungoldy reason, which one should I go with?

Find other options than a hit trinket.

From a purely theorhetical standpoint, what would you suggest aside from getting completely different gear?

I'm near 44% crit on paper with full raid buffs and the eye of the broodmother equipped. My other trinket is the spyglass!
